PSP Wireless Networking Notes

It just took me the better part of an hour to get my new PSP (yes, I’m weak-willed, but more on that later…) to connect to my home WLAN, so I thought I’d share a few tips and pointers in case others get stuck. Most of these pointers I picked up in this forum thread

  1. You need firmware version 2.0+ to access WPA-PSK protected networks.
  2. There may be issues using a wireless signal channel other than 11.
  3. If you have a 802.11g router then you need to enable 802.11b compatibilty (this was my main stumbling point)
  4. You may also have to disable any MAC filtering until you get your PSP connected and can find out its’ MAC address.
